Good quality hay should make up 80% of a guinea pig’s diet

Timothy, oaten and meadow hay are excellent sources of fibre and are vital for avoiding nasty dental problems. Hay also helps prevent boredom and midnight cage bar-biting.

Pellets are full of calories and should only make up around 10% of your guinea pig’s diet. The most suitable pellets are high in fibre and low in protein. Pellets shouldn’t contain molasses and artificial sugars.

Veggies and herbs must be served daily, but in moderation. They are a great source of vitamin C. Patrice recommends leafy greens such as bok choy, celery, corn husk, spinach, broccoli, cos lettuce, basil, mint and coriander.
